Mini-HAZOP and LOPA – open drain offshore wind power substation

MAR Consulting facilitated a mini-HAZOP (hazard and operability) and a LOPA (layers of protection) analysis of an open drain system in an offshore wind substation platform. Since the platform is normally unmanned and due to environmental conditions in the region (South Korea), the Operator prefers to discharge the open drain inventory to sea. The discharge shall be processed to avoid potential contaminants (such as transformer oils, foam from active fire protection, etc) to sea. Discharging to sea is an alternative to collecting the open drain in a sump tank and potentially requiring extra de-bunkering visits. The objective of the HAZOP […]

HAZID topside offshore wind substations in East Coast USA

Introduction MAR Consulting facilitated a hazard identification (HAZID) workshop of topsides of three (3) offshore wind substations (OSS) platforms. The methodology was based on the guidewords from DNV-ST-0145 with addition of other relevant topics such as work environment related hazards. The HAZID of offshore wind substations covered the topside during the operational phase only. The substructure including the application of the structure as a system for supporting the topside and for transfer to / from a crew transfer vessel (CTV) were not assessed in this HAZID. Participation from the different engineering contractors, as well as the operator and a 3rd […]

Scope of Work RAM study offshore wind substation

MAR Consulting prepared a scope of work and methodology report showing how a reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) shall be performed for an offshore substation engineering project. The offshore substations will be receiving power from wind turbine generators and transmitting it to shore. MAR Consulting will eventually support the engineering team to develop the RAM model and analysis, depending on project award to Client. MAR Consulting has extensive experience performing RAM analysis in a variety of projects and industries. Please contact us if you need support on reliability, availability and/ or maintainability analysis.

System design review wind power offshore platform

MAR Consulting facilitated a wind power system design review for an offshore substation platform. The platform receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea) and transmits the power to shore. This is a follow-up to the internal design review performed with the engineering company. In this review, the operator also participated – both the project team and operational organization. The main objective of the system design review of the wind power platform was to ensure that the system design is in accordance with the Authorities’ rules & regulations and the Client’s requirements. We focused on process safety, operation, maintenance, […]

Internal design review wind power offshore platform

MAR Consulting facilitated an online internal system design review for an electrical offshore platform. The platform receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea) and transmits the power to shore. This is a follow-up to the E-HAZOP performed: EHAZOP offshore wind power transmission platform · MAR Consulting. The main objective of the system design review of the wind power platform was to ensure that the system design is in accordance with the Authorities’ rules & regulations and the Client’s requirements. We focused on process safety, operation, maintenance, and interfaces to ensure the design of optimal solutions and that integrity […]

EHAZOP wind power onshore station

MAR Consulting performed an Electrical Hazard and Operability (EHAZOP) analysis of an electrical onshore station for a major OEM. The station receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea). The project was in the basic design phase, entering detailed design. Objectives of the EHAZOP The objectives were to: Evaluate the electric design with regards to safety and operability to avoid accidents and incidents; Ensure that design is fit for purpose and provides sufficient reliability, availability, and maintainability; Identify areas of improvement. Scope of the EHAZOP for wind power onshore station The E-HAZOP covered the high-power transmission and auxiliary systems. […]

EHAZOP offshore wind power transmission platform

MAR Consulting performed an Electrical Hazard and Operability (EHAZOP) analysis of an offshore wind power transmission platform. The platform receives AC power generated by wind turbines and distributes it to shore via a High Voltage DC link. Objectives of the EHAZOP The main objectives were to: Evaluate the electric design with regards to safety and operability to avoid accidents and incidents; Ensure that design is fit for purpose and provides sufficient reliability, availability, and maintainability; Identify areas of improvement. Scope of the EHAZOP for offshore wind power platform The E-HAZOP covered the high-power transmission systems: Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), transformer, […]
