TQP new part of multiphase meter (MPM)

MAR Consulting developed a Technology Qualification Plan (TQP), according to DNV-RP-A203, for a new part of a multiphase meter (MPM). The plan shows that performance criteria and all risks identified during a Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) workshop have been addressed by choosing and applying suitable qualification methods. The outcome of related activities shows no degradation of the overall MPM metering performance but a successful measurement decoupling from downstream piping configurations, as intended.

SAFOP wellhead platform central North Sea

Introduction MAR Consulting facilitated a Safety and Operability (SAFOP) workshop of the electrical equipment in an offshore wellhead platform for an ultra-HPHT (high pressure high temperature) gas condensate field located in the Central North Sea. The online workshop was attended by discipline experts from engineering contractors and subcontractors as well as the asset operator. The objectives of this SAFOP were to: Assess and minimize potential hazards to persons around or in the electrical installations; Provide a critical review of the electrical system design and equipment, assess any limitations and their effects on operability, safety and security of the system; Analyse […]

Availability of LV concept for wind power substation

MAR Consulting supported the development of an availability study of a new concept for low voltage (LV) power supply to auxiliary systems in offshore wind substations. The concept proposed includes less redundancy. Therefore, it is essential to understand how it may impact the availability of the LV wind power substation. The substation’s main objective is to transmit offshore wind power to the onshore grid. For this purpose, auxiliary systems are essential to maintain the substation operationally capable. Failure of power to auxiliary systems such as cooling pumps, etc results in the inability to transmit power to shore. It was concluded […]

System design review wind power offshore platform

MAR Consulting facilitated a wind power system design review for an offshore substation platform. The platform receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea) and transmits the power to shore. This is a follow-up to the internal design review performed with the engineering company. In this review, the operator also participated – both the project team and operational organization. The main objective of the system design review of the wind power platform was to ensure that the system design is in accordance with the Authorities’ rules & regulations and the Client’s requirements. We focused on process safety, operation, maintenance, […]

Internal design review wind power offshore platform

MAR Consulting facilitated an online internal system design review for an electrical offshore platform. The platform receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea) and transmits the power to shore. This is a follow-up to the E-HAZOP performed: EHAZOP offshore wind power transmission platform · MAR Consulting. The main objective of the system design review of the wind power platform was to ensure that the system design is in accordance with the Authorities’ rules & regulations and the Client’s requirements. We focused on process safety, operation, maintenance, and interfaces to ensure the design of optimal solutions and that integrity […]

EHAZOP wind power onshore station

MAR Consulting performed an Electrical Hazard and Operability (EHAZOP) analysis of an electrical onshore station for a major OEM. The station receives power generated from offshore wind turbines (North Sea). The project was in the basic design phase, entering detailed design. Objectives of the EHAZOP The objectives were to: Evaluate the electric design with regards to safety and operability to avoid accidents and incidents; Ensure that design is fit for purpose and provides sufficient reliability, availability, and maintainability; Identify areas of improvement. Scope of the EHAZOP for wind power onshore station The E-HAZOP covered the high-power transmission and auxiliary systems. […]

Electrical SAFOP E-HAZOP LNG project

MAR Consulting AS facilitated online a 7-day electrical safety and operability (SAFOP / E-HAZOP) analysis for a new liquified natural gas (LNG) development in the USA. SAFOP is also often referred to as an electrical hazard and operability (E-HAZOP) analysis. However, besides the technical system operability study, it can also include a more classical hazard identification (HAZID) and an operator task analysis. In this project, the client required system operability and a HAZID to identify potential hazards on the electrical design of the LNG plant. An operator task analysis was not included since the project was just entering the detailed […]

FMEDA Deepwater drilling blow-out preventer

MAR Consulting facilitated and documented a Failure Modes, Effect, Criticality and Diagnostics Analysis (FMECA / FMEDA) of a deepwater drilling blow-out preventer of a major drilling contractor’s subsea drilling BOP. This work is part of an extended partnership to to cover the entire fleet of drilling rigs and ships. Description of projects MAR Consulting has been involved as part of this partnership: FMECA BOP subsea drilling safety system · MAR Consulting; FMECA / FMEDA subsea drilling BOP (electrical and hydraulic systems) · MAR Consulting; FMECA of redundant subsea BOP deadman-autoshear · MAR Consulting; FMEA of electrical and control systems in […]

EHAZOP offshore wind power transmission platform

MAR Consulting performed an Electrical Hazard and Operability (EHAZOP) analysis of an offshore wind power transmission platform. The platform receives AC power generated by wind turbines and distributes it to shore via a High Voltage DC link. Objectives of the EHAZOP The main objectives were to: Evaluate the electric design with regards to safety and operability to avoid accidents and incidents; Ensure that design is fit for purpose and provides sufficient reliability, availability, and maintainability; Identify areas of improvement. Scope of the EHAZOP for offshore wind power platform The E-HAZOP covered the high-power transmission systems: Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), transformer, […]
