FMECA of redundant subsea BOP deadman-autoshear

MAR Consulting facilitated and documented a failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) on a new hydraulic solution for a deadman-autoshear system of a subsea blow-out preventer (BOP). To improve the reliability of the safety functions provided by the deadman-autoshear system, a solution with additional redundancy to critical components has been proposed. This solution was analyzed following IEC60812 methodology before it is included in the BOP. The main purpose was to understand the true benefits of such a solution from a safety and reliability perspective.
